Women's Hockey Puts Up Better Fight In 4-2 Loss at UW-Superior

11/2/2013 5:46:00 PM

Box Score Hamline's women's hockey team shook off a rough opening night experience and gave UW-Superior a rough time of it Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena. Chelsea Koehn and Jordan Verleye had a goal and assist apiece in a 4-2 to the Yellowjackets.

Unlike Friday night's game, HU started well and throttled the Yellowjackets up enough to forge a 2-2 tie after two period. The home team, however, broke free for two goals five minutes apart in the third period to drop Hamline to 0-2 on the season.

Verleye finished off a three way play with Koehn and freshman Lizzy Schieldt for a PP goal 9:37 into the game. UWS  got the next two tallies. Koehn, who scored the team's lone goal the night before, and Verleye reversed roles (with Megan Gjere getting the second assist) at 12:54 to retie the game at 2

It stayed knotted until midway in the final period, thanks in part to goalie, Sam Stark had a solid game, recording 41 saves.

Hamline now has a week off before starting MIAC play against St. Catherine at Warner Coliseum on  Friday, November 15. game time is 7:00 p.m.
