Box Score
One of the smallest Hamline men's soccer players stood tall on a rainy night in Duluth. Michael Ramirez (7) scored a first half goal but it wasn't enough as the Pipers dropped their first game of the season, 2-1, to UW-Superior at Public School Stadium Wednesday night.
Hamline sent 10 shots towards the Yellowjacket net -- five of which landed on goal. But the 5-5 Ramirez was the only one to connect. He scored 26:05 into the game, his first of the season, to offset an early UWS goal. The game remained stuck at 1 until UWS scored in the 67th minute to take the lead for good.
The Pipers managed three more shots but couldn't connect and fell to 3-1 on the season. Joey Matesi had five saves for Hamline, which will face Aurora Sunday at Paterson Field (1:00 p.m.). The Pipers open conference play next week with home matches against St. John's (September 17) and Macalester (September 21).
