Women's Soccer Gets Lots of Shots But Settles for 0-0 Tie

Box Score Coaches look for various things when judging their team's progress. Although his team never did find the back of the net in a 0-0 2 OT tie with UW-Stout Tuesday at Paterson Field, there were plenty of things that had to please head coach Ted Zingman.

For openers, there were many flashes that Aileen Scheibner, who has been hampered all season by injuries, appears to be rounding into form. Scheibner attacked the entire game, finishing with five shots, four of which reached the UWS goal and played all 110 minutes. Despite missing time in the second half when she was hit in the nose, Eden Behrens was also a solid offensive presence with four shots. Nicole Verdoorn also had four as Hamline enjoyed an overall shots edge of 22-8. The Pipers also held the edge in shots on goal, 11-4 and, frustratingly, the goalpost (two shots hit the crossbar and another hit one clanked off the post -- all in the second half.)

On the other end of the field, Erin Urbanowicz made her second straight start a good one, keeping the Blue Devils at bay all afternoon (and early evening). In 200 minutes of action at home this season, Hamline has not allowed a single goal.

Despite the lack of goals, it was an up and down affair with Hamline constantly attacking. HU had the only shots of the extra period but simply couldn't find the mark. They are now 2-4-2 overall and return to MIAC action against St. Catherine at Paterson Field Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
