Box Score Jonas Walrich is adapting quickly. An exchange student from Germany who only joined the Hamline men's soccer team a week ago, Walrich stood up to the defending WIAC champion UW-Superior Yellowjackets Wednesday, handling eight shot sin goal in a 2-0 loss at Paterson Field.Â
UWS (6-3 overall) kept Walrich busy from the start, finishing with a 22-8 edge in total shots. However, the junior stayed cool, keeping the Yellowjackets off the board for 57 minutes before giving way to a nifty passing play that resulted in Gio Rodriguez's sixth goal of the season. UWS scored late in the game to drop Hamline's overall record to 3-5-1. It was the second straight game in goal for Walrich, who was pressed into duty withÂ
Derrick Mora sidelined with injuries.
The Pipers held an edge in corner kicks, 6-5, but the Yellowjackets kept the front of the goal clear.Â
Abbai Hafte had three shot attempts andÂ
Gilbert Ghong had two.Â
Hamline now has six days off. They return to MIAC action Sept. 30 at St. Olaf.
