Box Score 2 And on the second day of outdoor baseball in Minnesota, Hamline came ready to swing the bats. The Pipers rapped out 23 hits in all and evened their 2015 record at 2-2 with a doubleheader sweep of UW-Superior at Veterans Park In Minnetonka Wednesday.
Chris Zeller(pictured) was on base six times and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Hamline defeated the Yellowjackets, 3-2 and 12-4.
Zeller had quite a day with three singles, three stolen bases, three hit by ptiches and two RBI in the two games. He had company in the plate heroics department.
Matt Connell was a very good leadoff man with four hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
Jacob Picht was 4-for-7 and
Colin Olstad was 3-for-7 with four RBI.
The first game started badly with the Yellowjackets scoring two in the top of the first inning. After that, the trio of
Alex Bauermeister, Gaitlin Moul and
Nicholas Roesller limited them to two hots and no runs the rest of the way. The Pipers won the game in the bottom of the right when
Rick Tormey led off with a pinch-hit single and eventually came home on Zeller's two out single.
There was no such drama in the second game. The first four batters in the order --
Connell, Picht, Evan Cordell and
Olstad -- all reached base in the top of the first inning and motored around to score. HU kept scoring runs -- getting markers in every inning but the seventh. Olstad whacked a pair of doubles to drive in four runs. Connell,
Dan Moro and
Andy Sammon had two RBI each.
Hamline now heads to Jax, Ill. this weekend for four games. They will play MacMurray and Loras twice each on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15,
