M Soccer Sets New School Record For Consecutive Wins

9/17/2016 5:58:00 PM

Box Score On Saturday, it was the men's soccer team's turn to rewrite the school record book. Hamline took advantage of openings when they were presented for a pair of second half goals in a 2-0 win over Wis-Superior at Paterson Field. A pair of freshmen -- Adam King and Ben Sorenson -- found the net 16 1/2 minutes apart and GK Dean Isaacson extended his scoreless streak to over 400 minutes as the Pipers won their sixth straight game, breaking the school mark of five in a row set a decade ago.

HU is now 6-1 overall with the last five wins all coming via the shutout.

This one wasn't easy. It was tight in many aspects.

Both teams had plenty of chances. The Pipers finished with 16 total shots, 10 of which landed on goal. The Yellowjackets came back with 13 tries, five of which were stopped by Isaacson. UWS had an edge in corner kicks, 6-5. The fouls were even at 13.

But it was HU who made the big plays to secure the win. Big Play No. 1 came from King eight minutes into the second half. Ben Pietsch's threw a pass that eluded the reach of UWS goalie Josh Herd. King raced in and whipped the ball into the net for this third goal of the season.  Big Play No. 2 went to Sorenson, who picked up the rebound off a corner kick and shot the ball through traffic for his fourth goal.

As has been the case in this run, Isaacson took it from there, making four second half saves and pushing his streak of perfection in goal to 435:45. He also lowered his goals-against to 0.47.

Hamline will have little time to relish the win. They have another non-conference encounter set for Monday, September 19. Bethany Lutheran is the visitor at Paterson Field for a 4:00 p.m. start. HU returns to MIAC play on Friday, September 23 at Macalester.
