Alec Almquist

Alec Almquist joined the Hamline Sports Medicine staff in October 2023 and works primarily with the volleyball, men’s and women's cross country, men’s and women's hockey, and men’s and women's outdoor track & field teams.

In his role as an athletic trainer, Almquist provides acute and long-term healthcare to student-athletes. He focuses specifically on injury prevention programs and soft tissue mobilization, to aid student-athletes in their day-to-day abilities to compete at their optimal performance levels.

Almquist earned his bachelor of science degree in biological sciences from Saint John's University (Minnesota) in 2016. From there, he pursued his master's of athletic training at Bethel University, graduating in 2021. During a two-year period in between undergraduate and graduate studies, Alec worked as a sports performance coach at Acceleration Northwest. There he helped athletes increase strength, speed, and body awareness through functional movement training, weight lifting, plyometrics and cardiovascular conditioning.

Prior to working at HU, Almquist worked for Twin Cities Orthopedics as a full-time float, providing athletic training. There he provided outreach coverage to the high schools of which TCO is contracted. Since 2022, during the summers, Almquist works with Minneapolis City Soccer Club providing athletic training services with all three teams.

Almquist comes to Hamline with additional experience from his time as an on Ice Official with USA Hockey since 2012. He also worked as a part of the USA Hockey Junior Officiating Staff for 10 years, skating over 600 games in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), North American Hockey League (NAHL), and United States Hockey League (USHL), from 2014-2023.

Outside of work, Almquist enjoys golfing, snowboarding, spending time with his Golden Retriever Denver, and boating.
